It is 1:18 pm as this BNSF northbound glides down the #1 main towards Denver, while a southbound loaded coaler holds the #2 main in the 'sag' at Spruce. With the NB clear ahead the SB coaler will shortly resume its final 3 mile grind to the summit at Palmer Lake. There was once a crossover here when each mainline was operated separately by the ATSF and DRGW, but it was taken out after joint operations started way back in 1918! {ColoradoRailfan.com "Train Logs; A day on the Joint Line" has some good background info re the Joint Line..} |
